Meetings & Conferences

Virginia’s community colleges sponsor dozens of meetings and conferences throughout the year for professional development, leadership training, and information exchange. Many of these opportunities occur regularly at least once a year, including the following.

Administrative and Faculty Leadership Development Conference:
Provides the theories, practices, and skills needed to support more effective leadership in the participants’ respective departments/areas and colleges. (Once a year in September)

Classified Staff Leadership Academy:
Provides a short-term, intensive program of professional and personal development focusing on skills, leadership, and personal growth. (Once a year on a rotating schedule)

VCCS New Horizons Conference:
Enhances enhance instruction and services through an exploration of emerging technologies and workplace needs. (Once a year in April)

Peer Group Meetings:
Encourage intra / interdisciplinary collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, planning, forecasting, learning, and networking. (Every other year or once a year)

Regional Centers for Teaching Excellence:
Provides training in teaching enthusiastically with the latest discipline knowledge, instructional practices, and technological advances, based on what teachers are doing at Virginia community colleges. (Variable dates posted on RCTE websites)

Virginia Community Colleges Association:
Shares statewide information and highlights exemplary community college programs. (Once a year in the fall)
